Field Law: Website Design and Development

Field Law is a western and northern regional law firm in Canada with offices in Calgary, Edmonton, and Yellowknife. With more than 120 lawyers and a client base that spans individuals, businesses, government bodies, and institutions, Field Law is known for delivering practical, effective legal advice tailored to each client’s unique needs. What sets the firm apart is its deep regional understanding, collaborative approach, and proactive involvement in the communities it serves, qualities that have earned Field Law a trusted reputation across Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
Field Law approached Cubicle Fugitive with a clear mandate: modernize and streamline its outdated website to reflect the sophisticated, client-focused service the firm is known for. Their existing site had grown clunky over time, housing content in confusing places, making navigation difficult, and preventing users from easily finding the information they needed.
Before jumping into design, we conducted in-depth stakeholder interviews across all offices and practice areas to better understand the firm’s identity, client experience, and business goals. These insights shaped the website strategy from the ground up, informing everything from content structure to page hierarchy and the tone of key messaging.
Strategy Rooted in Clarity
At the heart of this redesign was Field Law’s tagline, “Because Clarity Matters.” This wasn’t just a line, it became a guiding principle for every design, content, and user experience decision we made.
We developed hero banner messaging that reflected three of the firm’s core strengths, all tied to the clarity the firm offers its clients:
- Thoughtful Questioning: Field’s lawyers know the right questions to ask, digging deeper to uncover the root of a client’s legal issue.
- Proactive Thinking: Rather than reacting to problems, Field Law stays actively involved in the legal community, enabling them to anticipate challenges before they arise.
- Empowered Clients: Through strategic advice and deep legal expertise, the firm helps clients make confident, informed business decisions.
These themes not only shaped the homepage but also informed content strategy across the entire site.
Design and UX That Puts Clarity First
To support the overarching message of clarity, we implemented a clean, modern design with clear paths to content and intuitive navigation. Some notable enhancements include:
- Redesigned Lawyer Bios: We restructured bios to better showcase each lawyer’s credentials, practice strengths, and personal approach. A collapsible navigation menu allows users to jump to relevant sections like Experience, Credentials, and Insights without overwhelming the page. Once a user scrolls past the top banner, the menu neatly collapses into the corner of the screen and follows them throughout the page.
- Improved Content Organization: Previously, a single cumbersome database was used to store News, Publications, and Events. We separated them into three distinct, filterable modules, making it easier for users to explore content meaningfully.
- Enhanced Event Module: We built a flexible, future-ready event system that accommodates multi-day, multi-session events in various formats (virtual, in-person, or hybrid). The module gives the Field Law team the tools they need to promote upcoming events clearly and dynamically, while making it easy for users to register and engage.
A Fresh, Future-Facing Experience
Field Law’s new website is more than a digital refresh, it’s a reflection of the firm’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to the client experience. Every detail, from content presentation to the user journey, was designed to underscore the professionalism, personality, and intelligence of the people behind the practice.
The feedback has been highly positive. The Field Law team is proud to have a modern website that reflects who they are today and supports where they’re going tomorrow.
